About Kim

Kim Storey is a photographer, author, and farmer who specialises in capturing the authentic beauty of rural family life across NSW. She is passionate about telling the story of the deep connection families have to their land and to each other—whether it’s a quiet moment in the cattle yards, kids chasing sheep through a paddock, or three generations standing proudly in front of the family homestead. From golden paddocks at sunset to gum-lined creeks and the dust of the sheep yards, Kim’s photography preserves the real, unposed moments that farming families treasure for generations.

Kim grew up on a fine wool Merino farm and has worked in the agriculture industry ever since. She understands the seasonality and challenges of farming, and appreciates the unique rhythm of rural life. This experience gives her a deep insight into her clients’ rural businesses and allows her to create unique images to suit.

As an author, Kim’s storytelling extends beyond the camera. The idea for her first book, What Does a Farmer Look Like?, came after a quick Google search turned up nothing but outdated clichés—old men in overalls, beards, and pitchforks. Determined to tell a truer story, she travelled far and wide to photograph and share the diverse faces of Australian agriculture: veggie growers, wool producers, cattle graziers, oyster farmers, and more.

Her second book, Little Farmers, was inspired by the smiles and excitement she saw when people discovered the “Farm Kids” chapter in her first book. Filled with joyful images and heartfelt stories, it celebrates the next generation of farmers growing up on the land.

Alongside her photography business, Kim Storey Photographer, Kim runs a small farm and is a devoted aunty—both to her little niece & nephew and to a circle of “adopted” nieces and nephews from her friends’ families. Her love for finding special farm-related gifts for them sparked the creation of the Little Farmers Store in June 2022. The store curates books, toys, and treasures—often Australian-made—that inspire little farmers and connect them to the land. You can visit Little Farmers Store here.

Whether she’s photographing a family on their farm, creating coffee table books that celebrate rural life, or sourcing the perfect farm-themed storybook, Kim’s mission is simple: to honour the people, places, and moments that make life in the country truly special.
